MOAB 2011
I have had it up to HERE (imagine me with my arm stretched waaaaaay above my head) with all this blasted rain. That was one of the few factors that lead Clayton and I down south over Memorial weekend.
1) it was supposed to be warm in Moab and rain (again) in Logan
2) Gave us a chance to go to the Monticello Temple as we have been trying to hit all the Temples in the State of Utah
3) warm/hot weather
4) loooong weekend
5) nice weather
6) it had been almost 4 years since our last visit to Moab. We were due for another trip.
7) Did I mention that the weather was supposed to be awesome degrees Fahrenheit?
We packed our tent, cooler, bags, bikes and headed south for a glorious looong weekend.
The following conversations were heard on the drive down:
"Road trip rule #1: If you turn the music down you can't sing louder than it."
- ouch! That was Clayton's rule for me. Happened 2 minutes from home.
"I'm going to count how many times you say 'blah, blah, blah' and roll your eyes. How many zero's are in infinity?"
- Also Clayton's comment to me. Happened 3 minutes from home. Are you starting to think this was going to be a long drive for me???
"I know exactly what road we need to take. Let's just turn the GPS off."
- 24 mile detour later... that was my mistake. woops. I was obviously having a banner day.
In all honesty it really wasn't a bad drive and most of those comments (except for the last one) were made jokingly (the first one better be! I have a Grammy award winning voice).
HOME SWEET HOME
We only decided to go to Moab about a week prior to leaving. I called every campground in the area to get reservations and absolutely nothing was available. Every time I called and told them the dates we wanted I could imagine the laughter on the other end of the phone. It went a something like this in my head..."This person on the phone is asking if we have anything for MEMORIAL WEEKEND available. baaaahaaaa. Can you believe that!?! Memorial weekend! Is she crazy? baaaahaaaa. Good luck girl! baaaahaaaa."
Lucky for us I have persistence and called every campsite every day until I got one with a cancellation. Persistence pays off!
For your reading please (or because you have to read because you are related to me) here are the activities that we did in Moab

On the drive home (when I wasn't too busy trying to sync the volume of my singing with that of the radio...stupid rule #1) Clayton and I compiled a list of ...
Things We Learned In Moab 2011
1. If you are hiking to a waterfall you must have a beer can in your hand at all times and under NO circumstance should you ever let go of that can NO matter how fast the river is running you are trying to cross or how high up the rock is that you are jumping from (i.e. not spilling your beer is more important than personal safety).
2. Heidi can go without showering longer than Clayton.
3. Hippies get offended if you tell them they don't smell very organic.
4. All bike maintenance tools and spare tire tubes are worthless if you leave them at home (it is still up for debate who really ahem ... Clayton left them at home).
5. Make sure you know where your wallet is at all times.
6. Doesn't matter where you are in the world because if raspberries are $1 you stock up and take them home.
7. Doesn't matter where you are in the world you are leather vests with no shirt on underneath is still not cool (you know you want to see a picture of that one!).
8. "At age 30 you can drink beer by the case. At age 40 you can drink it by the six pack. And at age 50 you can only drink it by the bottle." Hmmm...thanks guys in campsite 154 for that interesting fact. At your logic newborns should be drinking beer by the keg.
9. I don't care how sick you are, if you are lying on the ground in the bathroom (surrounded by pee, butt flakes, used bandaids, hair...of any kind, tampon wrappers) it is just gross.
That about sums up our trip. Another fun vacation in the books. Where to next???

Are you kidding me you did all those posts TODAY! I will have to comment (dont' worry I will on all of them, but I will have to do it one at a time)
I don't think there is a dull moment on your road trips.
ha! I don't think there is a dull moment either, not even on the drive there and back! Sounds like you got good weather though and for that...I'm thankful for. The raspberries sound so good...and #9 is gross!!! Glad you had such a good time
Love all of the posts and pictures! Looks like such a fun trip!!
Forgot to say I'm glad there was no breaking the sabbath and no broken noses! Love you both
