ODE TO CANDACE AND NICOLE
Last Friday, Candace and Nicole stopped by our house to give Clayton and I a good-bye present (grass skirt and macadamia nut cookies) and poem.
I had big plans for us this summer
But now you are leaving me and that is a bummer
Volleyball by day and bbq's by night
Now with tears in my eyes these words do I write
I know that there are boys and school
if I kept you from that I would be a fool
I'm glad you decided not to go to the "U"
because that would make me want to eat poo
However, without you Icon won't be the same
Going to work each day will feel like some cruel game
Thank you for all you have taught me
knowing the secrets to free concerts gives me glee (that's right I said GLEE!!!)
Clayton and I will mostly miss your happy smiles
Thinking about you guys will help us run miles
And if the time shall come that we run to Cali
we WILL stop and see you in the Salt Lake Valley
If you ever come back to the valley of the Cache
I will get you jobs in a flash
Just remember if school and boys don't work out (or put out:)
USU and my two brothers will help you out
Members of the family you will be
Just thinking about that makes me happy
Love you both! Keep in touch and remember to send wedding invites our way...that is IF you decide not to take me up on my offer to arrange a marriage between you guys and my two brothers!!!
Love Clayton and Heidi

MUSUBI AND SKIMBOARDING
We decided to head to Bear Lake and have a picnic. I know what you are thinking "April is waaaaay to early for Bear Lake." For any other April day I would agree, but this Saturday was the exception. Don't get me wrong we didn't plan on going swimming in the lake. The water was Artic cold and our swimsuits stayed at home. Clayton and I had a contest to see who could stand in the water the longest. I won. Clayton screamed like a very manly school girl and doubled over like someone hit him in his precious "jewels". It was cute.
Back to the picnic part. Before leaving Logan we decided that our picnic food of choice would be the musubi. Could the decision have been swayed from the absolutely delicious musubi from Pounders the other night? Perhaps. Anyway Clayton whipped these babies up and we were on our way.

delicious.
After a nap, frisbee and some serious paddleball we dusted off the old skimboards and took them over to the cest-pools-of-filth. The actual lake was too cold and deep on the edge so the warmer pee like pools had to suffice. Granted how we skimboard at Bear Lake isn't the "correct" way the ocean dwellers skimboard. Serious skill is required on the ocean, minimum to no skill is required on the lake.
Got a little more wet than I expected so I had to tie off my shorts in true 80s fashion.

Beautiful day + awesome company + musubi = perfect day
only ice cream would have made it better...

EASTER WEEKEND PART DOS
After longboarding we headed to a new resturant called "Pounders." I'm putting in a plug for them hoping that they will somehow read this and give me a free meal. Pounders is a Hawaiian restaurant here in Logan and might I add it is very ono (delicious). I felt like I was in Heaven when I took that first bite into my SPAM musubi. The food is pretty authentic since it is cooked by the actual Hawaiians (who are also the owners) and not by some pimple-faced, greasy hair teenager named "Stevie-boy". And in case you are wondering they did name it after Pounder's beach on Oahu. Beautiful stuff. We will be back. Just hope it is still there. I swear the building is cursed. In the last 7 years I'm pretty sure 4 different Mexican restaurants have tried and failed to succeed in that building. So if you are reading this go support them and help them last because Logan needs something besides 80 Mexican restaurants, a Chili's and Olive Garden. oh yeah and did I mention their amazing food!?!
Clayton was working so hard writing messages on his eggs that I thought he was writing perverted messages (don't believe that he would write something perverted? Ask to see our Valentine sugar cookie photos). Turns out he was writing love notes to me. ahhh. I only wrote one message which was "Claytons poo stinks." Kinda made me feel bad so I had to make up for it with some lovey-dovey messages of my own...don't worry I won't go into detail.
Finished product. Apparently we didn't let them dry enough before putting them back in the carton. oh well.

Inspecting the case. As far as the basket goes it isn't your typical wicker Easter Basket. That is your top of the Wal*Mart line cupcake holder. That sucker holds 24 cupcakes and the bottom holder also functions as a cupcake pan. Score. Seeing how Clayton has been going through his "let's try every cupcake recipe imaginable and get my wife fat" phase I thought this holder would come in handy.
Later that day we enjoyed our Easter feast with the McMurdies. Pretty sure I will never have a bad meal over there. Delicious. After dinner Clayton and Harry put on an Easter Egg hunt for the kids.

I love these last two pictures because they totally show how Chloe had to dominate the egg game. Kinda funny.
Well that was Easter. Now it is time to work off those 1800lbs of Cadbury mini eggs that I ate. ouch.

EASTER WEEKEND
Once again getting sidetracked...
LOCATION & FEELING: mopping on our couch out of boredom.
SOLUTION: Explore Logan
I know what you are thinking... "Heidi you have lived in Logan or close to Logan for 28 years (yes I did just reveal that. 28 is the new 27) of your life. What could you have left to explore?" Plenty. To start off any expedition the explorer needs food. Translation: we were hungry and wanted food. That's all. So on to Macey's we went to explore the aisles. The mission: one new produce item and 4 other grocery items that we have never tried before (2 picked by Heidi and 2 picked by Clayton). Once we purchased our goods we headed up to Cliffside (big houses on the hill otherwise known as richside). That's were more exploring came in. I once had heard that there was a big park up there. Had no clue were it was so we drove around till we found it. Total time exploring the area to find the park = 3.7 minutes and 2 wrong turns. Find park - check. Lay out blanket - check. Put goods/food on blanket - check, check, check, check, check.
The goods: Habanero Poppers (excellent), peanuts I can't remember the name of (splendid), Banana Toasted Coconut Macadamia Nut granola bars (freaking awesome), Parmesan Basil Wheat Thins (can never go wrong with the Wheat Thins - they were delightful) and Red Bananas (see below).
First of all these suckers are hard to peel. First bite...
Look of "oh I want to gag". Not good. At all. It tasted like the skin of the banana. Disgusting. I think that you might need to cook red bananas or something before you eat them. Anyone know? Notice in the picture where Clayton is getting some "serious" air that his board is still on the ground. Fake jump? Maybe. That or a cool new trick. You decide.
Let your imaginations be your guide.

Ok so I lied...That lazy thing is kicking in again.
Maybe I will make two posts out of Easter weekend.
Until next time...

THE DEVILS CAVERN
See that cross that someone carved into the frame of the door leading down to the crawlspace? That's why. Since seeing that carved cross we have stayed away from the crawlspace...until now (insert scary music here).Saturday morning left me extremely bummed because I dragged my sorry butt out of bed at 730AM to watch Saved By the Bell and it wasn't on. It has been replaced by baseball. grrrr. The two of us (yes I make Clayton get up early to enjoy the hilarities of SBTB with me...it's healthy for him) were sitting on the couch staring at the TV bored out of our minds when we decided to be brave and check out the crawlspace. We put on our brave hats (aka headlamps) and headed out.
Ummm...I'm not looking at the camera for obvious reasons...it was early and I. Looked. Awful.
Opening the door to the crawlspace...very slowly.
Getting the courage to walk in the door or perhaps he is trying to not pee his pants from being scared. Could be both.
Ahhh crap another door.
Not as big as I thought. More rocks than I thought too. Not very picturesque, but then what do you expect from the devil's cavern.
Holy crap! Barney lives here too! No joke. We did not bring him down there. They must be roommates. We found this guy awaiting our arrival. Strange yet interesting.
If the face cards next to Barney don't prove that the devil lives here then I don't know what does. For Young Women's camp we were NEVER allowed to bring face cards. They were of the devil. Playing with face cards were just the start of a downward spiral towards utter destruction. From face cards you start skipping school, then experimenting with drugs such as a caffeinated Pepsi, on to stealing, then beer, marijuana comes next and then the hard drugs (coke, heroin, etc.) next thing you know you are working the corner of 7th and main picking up men with your ultra teased hair, wearing big boots and a mini. See! Should have not started with the face cards. Getting sidetracked...sorry...
Interesting observation made by Clayton. Our house is made of logs. Weird. It was built in the late 1800s.
I wanted to post this picture to show you something. Notice those steps behind Clayton? Those steps lead OUT of the crawlspace. There wasn't much room to move around in there which shows that Clayton made me go down first. I did ask him if he wanted to go first...and ...silence. I took that as a "No! You go first"
