A BIRTHDAY FOR BRANDON

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDON

Great picture, huh. My photography IS pretty amazing.
Sunday, was my youngest brother Brandon's birthday. It was a pretty hallowed event. We pulled out the fancy-dancy china and folding chairs. Hawaiian haystacks was the requested meal. By the way, Clayton informs me that Hawaiian haystacks were NOT invented in Hawaii. Sure, Clayton...whatever! That is like saying that the Samoan's did NOT invent the girl scout Samoa cookie or Mexican's did NOT invent the taco.

Brandon, Kace and Cortney

See that ice cream cake? I ate HALF of it! Yay me! Happy Birthday Brandon. We love you!

APRIL SNOW BRINGS????

Dear Mother Nature,

You are trying my patience!

Sincerely,

Heidi McMurdie

BOWLING FOR SOCCER

Last week I got a random call from my dad. It was random because my dad rarely calls unless he needs me to pick up a part for him (which he has stopped calling for because I can NEVER get the RIGHT part), or if it is my birthday or if my mom is driving somewhere and he is bored (this has only happened once). It is not random for my mom to call. I probably talk to her at least 3-4 times a week. However, last week my dad called and wanted to know if we could go bowling as a family sometime. Tuesday was the chosen date. We would go watch my 5-year old nephew, Kace's soccer game and then go bowling. A conversation about the soccer game was heard between Kace and his lil' friend Sammy and it went something like this:

Kace: Even my aunt is coming to our game.
Sammy: Really? What does she look like?
Kace: (pause) hmmm...a girl

Very descriptive Kace, very descriptive. So there we were, it was Tuesday night and we were at a 5 year old soccer game. I think that my sister is giving Kace shots of steroids. He looked a million times bigger then all the other midgets out there. We had only been there for about 5 minutes and he had already scored 4 goals. From then on every time he would get the ball Clayton and I would say (under our breaths of course) "oh no." My sympathies went to the other team. I can understand where all of his ball-hogginess comes from. He got the gene from his parents. They are both extremely competitive (not super, but extremely). The kid was doomed from the get-go. Seriously Rachel you got to teach that kid to pass the ball or put weights on his legs or something. However, having a tad of the competitive gene myself, I was very proud of him. Following the rousing game of soccer, we hit Wild Bills, the Tremonton Bowling Alley. Apparently, they don't know the definition of reserve, (which is too keep back or reserve for future use - thank you dictionary.com) because even though Rachel called TWO days before to RESERVE two lanes they had somehow forgot. That was just the start of our troubles. Next I was wearing my slippers and had forgot to bring socks (ok so this one was my fault not the alleys). I wasn't about to stick my feet in the bacteria ridden bowling shoes which had been worn by 85 year-old men with foot fungus. Clayton volunteered to give me his socks and he would just keep on his regular shoes. Gracias mi amour.
Then Dad couldn't find a ball to fit his fingers. My dad has quite large fingers you see. Then in lane 1 (mom, pops, Heidi, Clayton) the balls kept getting stuck in the back. Then in lane 2 (Rachel, Nate, Kace and Brandon) the balls kept getting stuck too. I think at one point we had 7 balls stuck. Then in lane 2 the pin sweeper thingy kept coming down. An employee would go fix it and then a few minutes later it would happen again. This happened like 8 times. My lane was able to finish a game, but the other lane never did. I think they only got through 4 frames, if that. We should just stick with bowling on the wii. At least I can break 100 and Clayton can break a gentleman's 40. The highlight of the night was Tydon dancing to the jukebox. That girl in the picture wanted to dance with him and he totally shot her down. Even though the night didn't go exactly as planned it was good to spend sometime with the family. We are really lucky to live close to both of our families.

THE "LACK OF TULIPS" FESTIVAL

If there are two things that I love they are FREEBIES and TULIPS. Let me explain the freebies first. Clayton and I are avid 101.5 the eagle morning radio listeners because we love the morning dj. We are also watchers of...gasp...American Idol. Please don't judge us. You might be wondering how these two things go together.
Well 101.5 has been giving away "I vote for David Archuleta" t-shirts at their live broadcasts. While we are NOT obsessed American Idol fans, we can't pass up a free t-shirt. Especially one that will make us cool with the 12-17 year olds. We had previously planned to head south on Saturday and upon hearing of the live broadcast we decided to take a detour to the ghetto town of Ogden. The best part is that not only did we come away with David Archuleta t-shirts, but we also received (read it and weep people) long-sleeved, YES LONG-SLEEVED Eagle/Smith and Edward t-shirts. We are now the proud owners of 4 brand spankin' new t-shirts.
Now onto the 2008 Tulip Festival. I love Tulips. They are my 2nd favorite flower. Roses are my favorite...original I know. Growing up my Grandma Andrew used to have tons of tulips come up each spring. Since she lived next door it was very convenient for me to go pick some. Usually I got in trouble. But, who can blame me? Tulips are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. I heard about this Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving point and asked Clayton if we could go. Unfortunately for the tulips (and myself) we have had a cold spring so many of the tulips aren't exactly up yet. Therefore we attended the "Lack of Tulip" Festival.

Since there weren't many flowers to take pictures of, you will have to settle for pictures of us. But, here are a few of the flowers that were in bloom.

Afterwards we stopped at California Pizza Kitchen. Clayton and I have debated if it makes a guy less of a man if they drink out of straws at a resturaunt where they give you a non-paper cup. An actual cup which they have to wash and hand back out. I say NO. He says YES. Now if a guy is willingly drinking out of a straw in the comfort of his own home that is a different story. For sanitation reasons I think you should drink out of a straw and that by doing so it won't make you less of a man. Who is right?

CROQUET

Friday night, Brandon and Cristen honored Clayton and I with their presence. One might almost call it a double date.

For those of you who don't know, Clayton and I are avid croqueters (definition: those who love to play croquet). We played croquet on one of our first dates and received a saweeet croquet set from my mom at one of my bridal showers. Probably the most used wedding gift to this day. I usually win of course and Clayton usually goes home pouting. But, on this rare day I came in last (curses), Cristen came in 3rd, Brandon came in 2nd, and Clayton came in 1st. In my defense I didn't want Clayton to throw a fit in front of Brandon and Cristen if I won so I bowed out gracefully (a.k.a on purpose).

Thanks Brandon and Cristen for hanging out with us.

p.s. KAMI you still owe us a NEW yellow mallet!

TWO THINGS...

Two things happened yesterday that I would like to share

THING #1
I hate, I repeat HATE furniture shopping. I am not a patient person, nor do I like making decisions. I am not a creative person or an interior decorator. Those titles belong to my husband. He is both the man and woman (I mean that in a positive way Clayton) in our relationship. What I contribute to the relationship is still to be decided... Anyway, back to the point at hand...I HATE furniture shopping. Since Clayton works at La-Z-Boy (well at least until the end of August) we get great discounts on furniture. Basically everything at cost. We bought some couches before we got married and the decision process (what style, what fabric, etc) was so miserable it was painful. Why are we putting ourselves through this pain again you ask? Because Clayton's time at La-Z-Boy is coming to an end this will be our last chance to get a deal on furniture. We are both the kind of people who can't pass up a deal and someday we will have a house in which to store more furniture. So here we go again... Every night Clayton looks at La-Z-Boy's online website to look at styles and fabric while I am busy faking sleeping. Rude? Probably. But, in my defense he enjoys this kind off thing and I DO look with him occasionally. Yesterday, he wanted to go to Fisher's and Edward's (both furniture stores in Logan) to look at styles of sectionals that he has been looking at online. Ya know so we could sit in them and stuff. We had no luck and I promised him that I would look online today. Yipee...

THING #2
I LOVE ice cream. No love beats the love I have for ice cream, well besides the love I have for my husband...and family...and sunny weather. After furniture shopping last night I had to beg him to take me to the Dairy Queen for a Blizzard. He kept saying, "Are you sure?" To which I would reply, "yes." Then he would day, "I don't think that you have put enough thought into your decision." This conversation went on for about 5 minutes until I convinced him to go. The Blizzard in one of the best shakes. It makes me happy. I don't know what "special" ingredient they put in their soft serve, but it is glorious. Last night I indulged in a cookie dough blizzard (with extra chunks of course). I also love the french silk pie blizzard and the oreo cheesecake blizzard. Oh glorious, glorious Blizzard...I am making myself hungry...

HAPPY APRIL BIRTHDAY'S

April is a busy month for the McMurdie's.
9th - Harry (a.k.a Poppy)
11th - Chloe Faye
15th - Jessica

Clayton and I with his dad at graduation last May. Don't we look warm?

Clayton with his sister, Jessica on our wedding day. Can you believe that he used to chase her around the house with his BB gun!?!
Chloe! Where to start...On Sunday, I came out of the family room and found her trying on my flipflops. Seriously you have to watch her every second. I love her to death, but just thinking about her wears me out. Jessica I don't know how you do it! If you look close at these pictures (my camera is slowly dying so they aren't very good) you will see what I mean. She gets into everything! On Sunday, she got into Nana's 16 HOUR wear MAKEUP!. Chloe is living proof that the makeup does stay on for the entire 16 hours. Nana tried everything to get it off...makeup remover, vasoline, etc. Nothing worked. You can't help, but love her though.

Well...HAPPY BIRTHDAY Poppy, Chloe and Jessica. Thanks for all your love and support. We love you guys.

NCAA WINNERS

So I know that I am a little slow on posting the winners of our NCAA Bracket and all...But here are the winners...

I also wanted to show my MAD PAINT skills! There was a tie for first place between Clayton and Mark S. The picture of Clayton I drew in honor of his mullet days. Sadly it is not a permed mullet, but paint is HARD! I am also sad to report that I didn't fare too well. Stupid Duke and BYU messed me all up. But, hey at least I wasn't in last place. That honor went to my brother, Brandon! Anyway, congrats to Clayton and Mark...and I am still working on a prize.

WATERFALL

Once upon a time there was rumored to be a waterfall in the distant land of Providence. On one particular Saturday afternoon, Peasant Clayton and Peasantress Heidi left their humble little cottage on Logan's west side and embarked on a journey to find this waterfall. Alas they spent many a hours in search for this mysterious waterfall. They came to many places where this waterfall could have been. It could have been just up Providence Canyon in this spot...
Or it could be in any of these spots...

This was the second year in a row that Heidi and Clayton set out to find this waterfall with no success. After many hours of wandering in the wilderness (feel free to insert your favorite Book of Mormon quote here) they decided to give up. However, Peasant Clayton and Peasantress Heidi are not quitters even if they have to make their OWN waterfall (correction: even if CLAYTON has to make their waterfall). (Sorry, I should have warned you that this is a PG post).
As they trampled back through the SNOW in their SLIPPERS (yes, they embarked on their journey a little too early for Utah hiking standards...at least if you are wearing slippers) they felt a small sense of accomplishment for finding "a" waterfall, even if it was a man-made one. However, being in nature brought a few intelligent observations and questions to mind.

Observation #1 - Peasantress Heidi reminisced about the good old movie "Zoolander". Many of you will remember that in this movie the really, really good looking model played by Ben Stiller has a "look" known as "Magnum." As Peasantress Heidi was reminiscing she realized that there is one other person in the world who has "the look Magnum"...Victoria Beckham a.k.a Posh Spice. Take a look...creepy isn't it!

QUESTION/ARGUMENT #1 - When walking down hill should you walk "heal, toe" or "toe, heal"? If you say "toe, heal" is that how the Indians walk?

That is all...or THE END

Well maybe not...here are a few more pictures from our journey.
PS. If ANY of you out there know where this so called Providence Waterfall is please enlighten me. Don't just say that it is "by the rock quarry," because that doesn't help. I'm starting to think that it is one big joke on Heidi to say that there is a Providence waterfall when there isn't just so she will go out wandering...
