I wasn't planning on telling Clayton what we were doing for his birthday weekend until Friday. I was going to pack his bag and make him drive unbeknownst to where our final destination was.
Clayton always tells me that I am an Andrew and therefore I can not keep a secret. He may or may not have proof to back this fact up
(but mostly I hate the fact that I keep proving him right!).
Keeping that in mind...come Tuesday (3 days
before Friday) I broke down and told him. I was just soooo excited.
So on Friday we packed up Subie and headed to Midway for a little staycation in the Zermatt Resort.
The Zermatt Resort is a cute little European resort about 30 minutes from Park City. It would have been cuter if 1,000 little wrestlers hadn't been in town for the SLC Slam Jam. I'm sure there was a Holiday Inn somewhere near by.
After checking the place out we decided that we were starving so we headed to Tarahumara. We had been told that this little Mexican joint was awesome.
It did not disappoint. Both Clayton and I gave it a 9 out of 10. It is definitely one of the top 5 best Mexican restaurants I have EVER been too...possibly even in the top 2!
Check out their salsa bar. I counted over 30 different salsa's. We were in heaven. They also had ceviche (see picture above) which we fell in love with in Mexico. I was prepared to be disappointed, but it was amazing. Seriously amazing.
We also had tamales and tacos which were also really, really, really good. So the bottom line is...take the drive out to Midway and eat at TARAHUMARA! If you like Mexican food you will not go home disappointed.
We were so full that going back to Zermatt and putting on our swimming suits did not sound too appealing. Instead we drove back in to Park City to return/exchange some Christmas gifts at the outlets.
By then we were feeling a little better so we pulled our swimsuits on over our swollen bellies only to find the pool taken over by those BLASTED little league WRESTLERS!
Implementing plan B we went to the relaxation room to kill time until the parents at the pool decided to drag their little rugrats to bed. Well unfortunately that hour never came (before our bed time). Apparently it is ok to stay out all night if you have a wrestling match the next day.
So come the next morning we hit the pool first thing in hopes of beating anyone. Mission accomplished.
We had planned to see the Midway ice sculptures, but apparently they didn't do them this year. Then we planned to go to a yoga class taught at the resort
(obviously my idea more than Clayton's. He is such a good sport), but they decided that this particular Saturday at 10am they weren't going to hold the class. So we hit the gym for a bit and checked out.
Next we drove into SLC and picked up Kami and Erik for our ...
SUSHI MAKING CLASS
(Take a cooking class - CHECK)
Clayton has always wanted to learn to make sushi so when this Groupon came up I knew that I had to get it for him. He was a natural. Me? Not so much. His rolls would be so perfect that the instructor would come by and hold them up for the rest of the class could mimic his perfection. Me? My rolls he held up so the class could laugh at.
My rolls may not have looked pretty, but at least they tasted good.
After the traditional sushi rolls he taught us a different way to roll sushi. I have never seen it rolled this way before. I think this is the roll that earned Clayton his own chopsticks (that we forgot to get).
Again...mine didn't look so good.
Its a horrible picture, but this is where the instructor was showing the class Clayton's Nigiri sushi. This is right before he came and held up mine and said something about how he has no words to describe it...not in the "its so awesome that there aren't words to describe it" way either.
I had a great weekend and I hope Clayton and a great BIRTHDAY weekend too. He deserved everything and so much more. Love you a million times over C-man!
