THE WEEKEND WITH THE STATE'S TALLEST BISCUIT

Weekend in review...

RUTH'S DINER
Dear Ruth's Diner,
Just wanted to thank you for the amazing chocolate malt pudding and biscuits this weekend. My husband, Clayton is a huge pudding fan. As for myself I do like pudding, but if I'm going to take the sugar route I would rather go with ice cream. I foolishly thought that I could take "just one bite" of his pudding. 12 (huge) bites later and a glass licked clean by your truly I realized that I was dead wrong. I was converted. As for your biscuits...they definitely deserve the title SLC Magazine gave them of "Tallest Biscuit in Utah". Humongous! Crumbly, but not dry. And the flavor...oh the flavor. Again thank you for the delicious food. We will come again.
Sincerely,
Heidi
ps Monday morning my "thank yous " turned into curses with a large weight gain. Oh well.

ATTEMPT AT HIKING

Saturday morning conversation...
TV WEATHER MAN: it is snowing at 5,000 feet in elevation
CLAYTON: Hey Heidi check and see how high up the hike is. The weatherman says that it is snowing at 5,000 feet.
HEIDI: Ah crap...the trailhead starts at 7,200 feet.
CLAYTON: what do you want to do?
HEIDI: I dunno. What do you want to do?
* this repeated "what do you want to do" conversation goes on for about 20 minutes
CLAYTON: Let's just do it.
And so we did...until we lost the trail.
We had to admit defeat. Whenever something goes wrong or we have to admit defeat Clayton has a certain ritual (search back too the Grand Canyon trip of '07). However,
that picture is for personal use only.

I foolishly thought that the snow was deeper that it was. Falling backwards hurt a bit. Like a lot!
Beautiful day though. Crazy of us to think that hiking in the middle of May in Utah was a possible thing.
JUICY BERRY
duh. every weekend must include ice cream or frozen yogurt of some kind. We decided to venture out and try a new self-serve frozen yogurt place.
#1 dislike: price! at $0.40/oz a bit high.
#1 like: yellow cake batter flavor. amazing.
other dislikes include...some of the yogurt was watery. no good. They also didn't have a huge selection of chocolate toppings.
other likes include...not making patrons ask for sample cups. they were by the bowls so we could take as many as we wanted. At $0.40/oz we got our money's worth on sample cups.
IRONMAN 2
Sneaking in huge cups of frozen yogurt into the movie theatre is a talent. It was here watching IronMan 2 we enjoyed our expensive awesome yellow cake batter frozen yogurt. The movie was good, but not as good as the first in my/our opinion.
LIVING TRADITIONS FESTIVAL
We went to the LTF a few years ago, and missed out on trying (trying=paying...something we didn't want to do last time) some amazing food from other countries. Ever since the Salt Lake Magazine posted their 100 Utah Locavores last year and listed the Puaka Tunu from the Tongan booth at the LTF a must try we have been counting down the days until we could go back. We came, we ate, we...didn't think it was the best pulled pork. It was kinda dry and flavorless. We also got some Otai (coconut milk, fruit and water). Really liked it but after about 4 drinks I was full.
No day is complete without a mention of me and my Indian ancestry. Here am I with my great-great-great-great-great grandfather/chief. I wanted to have someone take a picture with Clayton and I and granddad Chief and title it "which of these things does not belong?"
And that's all she wrote...

TOUR de BEAR LAKE

BUCKET LIST
Ride around Bear Lake on the tandem - CHECK

Ride our bikes around Bear Lake has been on the bucket list for awhile now. But since receiving the tandem for Christmas we changed it from "bikes" to "bike". Let me tell you, having ridden around that lake once before with my roommate Cathy on "bikes" ridding a tandem is so much better. Maybe not easier physically (probably harder), but conversation is much easier.

When we pulled into Garden City we saw a big ol' sign that said "Bike Race Today." oh crapola. Yes we chose to ride on the same day and the same route that all the professionals in their tiney-tiny spandexy gear were riding. We felt cool. But, hey at least our bike was paid for.

Must take a "before" picture.

during picture.

Do you have any idea how much talent it takes to get the camera out of the backpack, say "cheese" and take the picture while pedaling? Not an easy task. But we are talented.

why is the lake so blue?
Well the Bear Lake State Park website tells us that Bear Lake's (often called the Caribbean of the Rockies) color is due to the reflection of the limestone deposits suspended in the lake. hmmm. interesting. now you learned something today.

Please note that this pictures was also taken while pedaling. I am in awe over my multitasking abilities. Clayton is in awe over my lack of pedaling abilities.

Yay for pit stops.
You can't tell from this picture, but his butt was on fire.

My butt was also on fire.
Not much on the east side but big houses, private beaches and roadkill.

The after/feeling dead picture
Oh how sore our butts were.
I have received conflicting reports on how far it is around the lake. I have read/heard anywhere from 45-60 miles. To Clayton and I, two non bikers the distance was loooong (but fun). We seriously enjoyed ourselves (expect the butt pain). The weather was perfect, we were both in great moods and had good conversations.

A guy once told me that he saw a For Sale sign on a tandem bike that said "For Sale: this bike ruined our marriage." With that being said I think our marriage will survive because we were able to bike a long distance and still love each other and were happy (but tired and sore) in the end.

3 posts today makes me worn out!

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN

Since non of us girls were with mom on Mother's Day we decided to give her a belated Mother's Day last Friday. What better way for her to celebrate than to spend the day with her 1 awesome daughter (ME) and 2 just ok daughters (Kami and Rachel). Ha ha. Just kidding. Geez calm down guys.

ACTIVITY # 1: Shopping at Gateway

After meeting Kami and Grandma we hit the stores. We had told mom that she was to find something and we would buy it for her for Mother's Day. So do you think she found something...NO (although I did order a purse for us to give her on Monday). In fact no one bought anything...except me. What the crap? Is something wrong with me or is something wrong with the rest of the gang? Not sure Clayton was thrilled with my shopping purchases (I didn't spend much...2 cheap shirts and 1 on sale cardigan), but after his purchase of 15 (yes 15) boxes of Chocolate Cheerios we decided to call it even. One highlight of our day at the Gateway was Kami driving over the island in the parking garage! Ha! Hey Kami remember that one time you almost took out 2 sister missionaries and 3 elders (2 different incidents) at the MTC?

ACTIVITY #2: Lunch at Mimi's Cafe

Just so you know per policy change Mimi's Cafe does not give you bread before your meal at lunch unless you ask for it. So ask for it. It is still free. We were the first table our poor waitress had ever waited on. She was new. The other waitress who looked like a pirate told us that. Sadly the only picture we got was blurry. ACTIVITY #3: Bowling

Who would have thought that we would have gone bowling without dad there to take us (he loves to bowl and show off his mad skills). Well guess what dad...we have mad skills of our own. They are called "gutterball", "granny bowl", and "no strikes the entire time" bowling. Yes we suck. But on the positive side it is fun to suck when the competitive person (you know who you are ... pops) isn't around. The winning score was in the low 70s. I barely broke 50. Yay me. Mom lost. We were debating on whether to let her win or not since she was playing with a gimpy leg and it was our Mother's Day celebration. Guess we are not that nice.

Kami showing us her pre-bowl concentration that or she is trying to make the pins fall in fear with her evil eye. Me! Not sure what that look or stance is about. Rachel's "I just got a spare all you losers" face Rachel's "I just ruined my spare by getting a gutter ball" face.
Mom's bowl. Oh crap it is heading right into the gutter. We had a lot of those that day. Too prideful for bumpers though. Pictures...of course. Question 1) Why are bowling shoes so hot?

Question 2) Why do I have that strange look on my face?

ACTIVITY #4: Frogurt
Us Andrew's love our ice cream. Ever since Frogurt came to town mom has wanted to try it but either there was no time or pops didn't have a coupon (he is the king of coupon's). So this was a must.

This post was brought to you by the letters
A - for Awesome mom
T - Thanks to Brandon for feeding mom's calves
S - rush hour traffic is Stupid
Love you mom. Thanks for spending the date with us and being a fabuloso madre!

CORT'S NEW WHEELS

GOOD times.
GOOD memories.
Sometimes we dwell on all the BAD life throws at us
that we forget about all the GOOD
I have many GOOD memories of my childhood
Such as...
- The time dad took us one what he called a "short" hike and 7 miles later we ended up at Bloomington lake. First hint that it wasn't a "short" hike should have been when he filled up the big jugs of Sunny-D with water and tied them around his waist with bailing twine (only a farmer). *Side note: that memory was so "good" at the time, but funny as the years go by how not so good memories turn into good memories.
- learning to do a front flip on the trampoline for the first time
- playing "kick the can", "gimme a wave", or "capture the flag" on Sunday nights at Grandma's house.
- many visits to Grandpa and Grandma Spencer's house which upon arrival my stops (in order) would be the following... 1. kiss grams and gramps "hello", 2. check out the candy jar (grandma always had the best treats), 3. see if she had any new books, 4. read mom's old (and probably worth a fortune now) Archie and the Gang comic books in the "pink room".
- school clothes shopping with mom, grandma and sisters in Sandy.
- first date. it was with my pops. we went to a Chinese buffet (naturally)
- All Dogs Go to Heaven (remember that old movie?) float which pops made for us for the Trenton 24th of July parade.
- speaking of parades...another good memory was dressing up in poodle skirts and high ponytails and dancing behind this beauty of a truck in a parade in Draper.

This truck once belonged to my Grandpa Spencer who put so much blood, sweat and ... money into it. It now belongs to my brother, Cortney. I love this truck and everytime I see it I remember being kids in that Draper parade. If I can find a picture I will scan it in. Let's be honest we all love old, awkward looking pictures of Heidi.

congrats on your new wheels Cort. Get the breaks fixed:)

"MAWWAGE"

"Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today.
Mawwage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam within
a dweam"
. - quote from the movie Princess Bride

It's that special time of year...wedding season
- big, white, expensive dresses (that you will wear only once)
- receptions (if you want me to come and bring you the peacock imprinted bath towls you registered for make sure there is a nut cup at the refreshment table. love. the. nut cup.)
- stressing over the hair situation
- stressing if your husband/fiance's ring will be ready before you get to the Temple (did that happen to anyone else or am I the only lucky one?)
- millions and millions of bobby pins and then finding millions more the next day
- photos such as when all the family and friends stand behind you and cheer while bride and groom kiss (don't try and pretend that your photographer didn't make you do this..you KNOW you did)
- debating on whether to smash the cake in your husbands face or be dainty and feed it to him nicely like the person you know you aren't
- wanting food. lots of it. but know that in order to continue fitting into that big, expensive white dress (that once again you will only wear ONCE) you must continue to sacrifice the carbs and calories (no that definitely wasn't me. My proof is the peach drink stain on my dress from not being able to inhale drinks and food fast enough)
- 10 cookie sheets. 3 crock pots. 19 pans. 27 picture frames. 4 blenders. 1 toaster (huh...just one?). 1 croquet set (awesome). 5 quilts. giftcards. money. and gifts that only Wal*Mart will take back and give you money for even if they didn't come from their store cus Wal*Mart will take ANYTHING back.
- people you care to see and others...well...we will leave it at that
- leaving without having to clean up
- just the two of you
-love
- feeling like you have never felt before
- laughing
- love
- knowing it will be forever
- love that grows more and more each day

Last Saturday we celebrated the marriage of two friends First we went to the wedding of Ariel and Kristi I work with Ariel, but perfer to call him Pepe The wedding was at the Old Rock Church in Providence Beautiful Cafe Sabor catered the luncheon. AWESOME. Freaking AWESOME.

DIA DE MOM

I'm not a mom
Heck (I'm a UT farm girl..I'm allowed to say that) I'm not even that great of a wife
However, someday I will be a mom (you can stop cheering now mother dearest)
But since I pick up Clayton's dirty socks I guess he thinks that I'm a mom because he bought me this for Mother's day (fyi total surprise...to my knowledge we have never given each other something for Mother/Father's day).

Oh yes he did!

The Ice Cream Maker attachment for our Kitchen Aid

Score!

The man knows my obsession for everything Ice Cream.

Anyone know where I can get a nacho maker for Father's Day?

Love ya C-Diddy!!!

Happy belated Mother's Day to all the "Real" Mom's out there!

WHY?

- WHY do my running shoes get holes in the top? Do my toes stick up? It is not like I have sharp toenails or any toenails for that matter. The picture below is of my last pair of running shoes. I have 3 more at home just like them. I got new running shoes mid February and they already have a hole. It's not like they are cheap shoes...Asics Gel Nimbus (they seriously ROCK...besides the hole thingy). At $120 I can not afford to purchase them every 2.5 months. Maybe I will amputate my toes. Do you need toes to run? Would being a partial amputee qualify me to participate in the Special Olympics and be able to park in the handicap spots?

- WHY is Modern Family not on every single night of the week?
- WHY is the weekend so short? and WHY do they go by so fast?

- WHY do the bathrooms at work smell like cherry flavored poop?

- WHY did I get up at 4 am this morning? Oh yeah so I could work out with Clay-on before he took a short day trip to Pocatello...which brings me to my next why...

- WHY Pocatello? What is so cool about Pocatello besides the 2 foot burrito at Senor Iguanas. The Today show named it as one of the top 5 (FIVE???) places to live in the U.S. Huh? I. Don't. Get. It! They took jobs, cost of living, health, recreation, housing prices, etc into account to come up with this list. I have (unfortunately) been to Pocatello and would never want to live there unless I had a few missing teeth, a meth lab in my basement, tattoo of a butterfly on my lower back, 80 different colors and styles of tube tops, endless supply of hairspray, and a dog named Dude.

2 foot burrito at Senor Iguanas - Lady and the Tramp style

- WHY do I pee so much? It is seriously annoying. I'm going to write a pros and cons list to staying hydrated. PRO: they say it aids in weight loss and helps control your hunger. CON: peeing...a lot. Can you get surgery to increase your bladder size? If so I'm going that route if not I'm getting off the hydration bandwagon. CON you win!

- WHY was Martha Stewart and Donald Trump on "Marriage Ref"? They made me very uncomfortable.

- WHY can't the snow melt in the mountains so we can go hiking? and WHY does it look so warm outside, but feel so freezing? Oh yeah we live in UT.

- WHY did I like corn nuts as a kid, but never have them now? Bless the good old days at Cedar Ridge buying stuff from the candy store.

- WHY do people drive PT Cruisers and Chevy HHR's? Hands down the ugliest cars ever made.

...and yet the rental car companies always seem to give us an HHR when we go on vacation

- WHY can't I stand the Lakers? This one is easy. One word/name: Kobe! Sorry I'm not posting a picture of him. I don't want my blog tainted.

- Y kant eye spel goode? Please see previous post. I meant to say "edition" not "addition".

- WHYat the rip ol' age of 29 do I still get acne? This is one I really want answered!

- WHYdo celebrities drive me crazy, but yet I still check people.com daily?
