Ok so I was browsing the Internet on turning 30 and I ran across a few lists.
9 Things to Know Before You Turn 30 and Top 10 Things to Do Before You Turn 30
I figured that since Clayton is already 30 and I still have a few days I would use him for these lists.
So...without further ado here we go

9 THINKS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TURN 30
1. Life is SO not about you. Pretty sure Clayton knows that. He lives it on a day to day basis. He is one of the most selfless people I know. He would much rather give that receive. Gets it from his father. In fact sometimes he gets annoyed that his dad won't let him do something for him, but then he can't figure out why I get annoyed when he won't let me do something for him. He is constantly trying to make me happy whether it be from folding the whites (I hate them with a passion), to giving me the last bite of something we are sharing, to opening my door for me in the pouring rain, to giving me the better treadmill to run on, to letting me put my oh so cold feet on him at night. The list could go on and on.
2. Credit Cards Are Dangerous. I am proud to be married to a financially smart man. Clayton and debt do NOT go hand in hand (with exception of mortgage of course).
3. Stuff Will Never Satisfy. See #2. I have never known him to go buy the latest and the greatest something or other. Even though we do like to purchase things that are fun and entertaining he knows that true satisfaction and happiness come from the Gospel.
4. Save Now While You're Young. He his a financial advisor who is helping us and others plan for the future. Enough said.
5. You should probably read more. This he should probably do. The last book I saw him read (besides text books for school) was The Da Vinci Code. That was on our honeymoon. However, he frequently reads THIS BLOG (hahaha), Sunday comics, stock reports (exciting), and Salt Lake Magazine.
6. Pay Attention to What You Eat. Clayton is very health conscious. We both are (or try to be). Doesn't mean we are perfect. Weekdays are better than weekends. Still a work in progress. Oh yeah and cupcakes are a weakness.
7. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others. Speaking of work in progress... Is it human nature to do this? Cause it is hard not too.
8. Get Used to Saying "No". Lots of times I ask him if I can get something and he says "If you want to." Sometimes I do it just to see if he can tell me "no". I'm thinking maybe tonight I will ask him if I can get a Yacht.
9. Maintain Close Relationships. One of the reasons that we are still here in Utah is because of family. Clayton loves both of our families and likes to be close to them. He realizes that the most important things in life aren't possessions, money, or career. One of the most important things in life is family. Life is too hard and short to do it alone. He once told me that a big draw to marrying me was my family. I feel the same about his family. Clayton also expresses regret that relationships with his high school friends have drifted. So if you are a HS friend call him!

TOP 10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU TURN 30
1. Drive a wickedly cool car, even if you have to rent it. Does Subaru count? Of course it does! Just to be sure I called him at work to ask him and he said, "Our car" with a duh tone. Oh yeah he has also driven his Dad's 1966 GTO...in the Cache Valley Crusin' no less.
2. Date against type. Not sure that I can answer this one for him. In the beginning did I think he was my type. Not really. Did he think he was my type. Probably not. Was a sports fanatic who watched football every Saturday something that he looked for? No. But we had fun together and kept coming back for more. Now that we together I can see that we are totally the same type in many, many ways. Of course we have grown into the same type as well.
3. See the world. I'm changing this one to See the United States. It is no secret that we LOVE to travel. However, most of our trips are beach oriented. We go where the water is and that is usually Hawaii and California. Hawaii will always hold a special place in our hearts. Clayton has been to Hawaii (the big island), Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Together we have been to Florida (including Key West), Bahamas, California (north and south multiple times), Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho (wahoo) and that is all I can think of. We have explored Utah so much in the last year and have really come to love (even more) this great state we live in.
4. Live in a cool place. he lived in Hawaii for 5 years. Enough said.
5. If you're going to drink a lot, do it when you're young. Does Gossner boxed milk count?
6. Take risks with your job. Clayton was forced to take a career risk in 2008 when La-Z-Boy Tremonton shipped out to Mexico. So far Edward Jones has been working out nicely...not that it hasn't been extremely hard and mentally exhausting. Rewarding though? Yes.
7. Do something physically adventurous. Ummm everyday with me is adventurous! JK (kinda) How about skydiving in Hawaii, swimming with sharks, scuba diving, and kayaking with a shark.
8. Take your parents to dinner. If they would ever let us pay we would. So Harry and Shira when do you want to go out for dinner?
9. Do volunteer work. Was a missionary for 2 years. Often doesn small acts of service like shovels our neighbors driveway and their sidewalks. He is often helping others with noticed and un-noticed acts of service. One thing that impresses me was when he was called to be ward maintenance/facility representative (AKA Ward Janitor). Man how I didn't like that calling of his. I complained numerous times, but did he complain once? No.
10. Use this decade to go to extremes. This decade we want to hike the Napali Coast, scuba in the Great Barrier Reef, hike the trail to Mordor (I detest Lord of the Rings, but love to hike), ride an elephant, snorkel on the coast of Niihau, walk on the Great Wall of China, finish a triathlon, see the running of the bulls in Spain, see the sun rise on Haleakala, stay up until midnight at least 4 times, and more will be added to the list in the days, months, years to come.
Here is to a great 30 years and many more to come!
