WELLSVILLE HIKE - TAKE 2

WELLSVILLE MOUNTAINS

After hiking these bad boys last year (click here for the oh so exciting recap) I really didn't think that we would do it again for at least a 5 or so years. So when Clayton mentioned hiking it on Saturday...I was a little surprised. Instead of starting at the Rattlesnake (yeah I don't like the name either) trailhead in Sardine Canyon and hike to the top and then go back down Rattlesnake like we did last year we tried a different approach. We started at the Deep Canyon Trailhead in Mendon and hiked the whole range going down Rattlesnake ending up in Sardine Canyon. The whole hike from one end to the other is 11-12 miles (depending on what site you look at...I'm going with 12 miles)

One of the reasons we decided to do it again was to see the leaves in all their fall glory. Granted we were a few weeks late for the real show, but it was still very pretty.
Overlooking the Box Elder side

see that white crap? That is snow. I. hate. snow!

The next two pictures are at the top overlooking Logan/Cache County

At the top over looking Box Elder County
I was surprised how crowded the hike was. However, most people went up Deep Canyon and down Coldwater...a shorter route.
The majority of the people we passed asked which way we were going down. Since the plan was Rattlesnake that is what we told them. Here are there responses we got:
"Glad it is you and not me"
" Oh that is FAR"

"That is a long way"
"Too long for me"
"Good Luck"
"That is going to take awhile"
I'm not going to lie...their responses evoked two different feelings in me
FEELING #1: hmmm...do I really want to do this if it is going to take all of my precious Saturday?
FEELING #2: Oh yea I am totaling doing this.
ABOVE: I don't think that I have ever been happier to see Sardine Canyon than I was that day.
BELOW: These berries were all over the place. Anyone know what they are and if they are edible? Clayton wouldn't let me find out.
There was surprisingly still a lot of green on the hike towards the bottom.
Finishing up on Rattlesnake.
FYI snake sighting on this hike was = ZERO
Total hike time = 5 hours exactly
For all of you hikers out there I totally recommend this hike. The views were amazing and even though it is long it is totally worth it.

I think it looks beautiful! I seriously want to do this hike. Unfortunately for me Nate mostly likes to hike if there are animals to be hunted. dumb.

WOOOOWWWW. I'm officially impressed. While I can imagine how amazing this hike would be with the veiws...I'm pretty sure it'd take an act of congress to get me to do it. And it would take me WAY longer than 5 hours...

You two are speedy. Average hike time for that is 7 hours. Kudos to you. Beautiful photos. Didn't you just love Deep Canyon?

I think those are choke cherries but you'd have to show me an up close pic. You are wise not to just 'test'.
