HAWAII - DAY #7

HAWAII - DAY #7

Be warned. Day 7 has lots of pictures.

Back in 2005 (my first time in Hawaii) when I went to visit Clayton while he was a student there we got up at 3am one morning to hike Stairway to Heaven or Hakiu Stairs. Why did we get up at 3am? Because this hike is closed...aka illegal. We needed to get up and down before the guard showed up. We wanted to attempt it again this trip. After talking to Jonathon we found out that the guard is actually pretty cool. As long as you start before he gets there at 8am you are fine. So we started at 7am. This is probably one of my favorite hikes. The views are amazing. There are 3,922 stairs to the top. Parts of the trail you will have to use the steps as a ladder. Kinda crazy-scary, but oh so worth it.

Quite the drop-off

Us at the top

Full circle rainbow
Umm...ok on the way down I saw this worm in between stairs. I shouldn't say worm because we still haven't determined that it was, in fact a worm. Whatever it was it was either giving birth to one of it's kind or devouring one of it's kind. Weird.

So we get to the bottom and greet the guard. He didn't chastise us, fine us or anything. In fact he was really cool and took this picture for us. Thanks Laredo (like the jeep). He told us other good hikes to do on the island and just chatted with us for a bit. Oh and his hair was multi-colored...blue and white. sweet.

Beach time. On the way to Waimea (my all time favorite HI beach) we stopped at a fruit stand to get some fresh coconut, lychee, mango, and papaya.

After a incident between the ocean and my cellphone we headed to Matsumoto's for some shave ice.
On the way back home we stopped at Turtle Beach again and sure enough there was a turtle. I really never get tired of seeing them.
We also made a small detour and stopped at Kawela Bay (my second favorite beach) and relaxed for a bit. Also saw more turtles there.

That night we met the Reyes's for dinner at Cafe Maharani for some Indian Food.

Afterwards we went to Bubbies for some Mochi Ice Cream
(seriously no wonder I gained weight on this trip)
Thanks Reyes's for everything!!!
And thus ended day #7
Still to come...day #8, 9, 10 and 11.
