SLEEPING IN...
Day # 10
...is not what we do.
In fact we do just the opposite.
As you may or may not have seen in the post below (Day #9) as a child none of us Andrew kids were allowed to open presents until all the chores were done and the last person was in the house. So present opening didn't happen until around 8 am or later.
It all started on our first Christmas as a married couple. We decided that we wanted to sleep in our own house and have our own little Christmas morning gift giving together. Just the two of us. Afterwards we would head to the McMurdies and then later in the afternoon we would head out to my parents. We are lucky that our parents are so close that this is possible for us to do. On Christmas Eve of 2005 we go to bed. Around 300 am Clayton rolls over and asks me if I want to go open presents. I say, "I can't. It is too early" even though secretly I wanted to and knew that sleep was hopeless. We both unsuccessfully try to fall back asleep and at 330 am he asks me again if I want to go open presents. Oh how I wanted to, but again I felt guilty like I was breaking the rules. This routine of asking every half of an hour went on until about 530 or 600am when I finally gave in and we got up and opened presents.
Neither of us sleep very well on Christmas Eve (or even the week before Christmas for me) because we are so excited. For the past 5 or 6 years we have gotten up between 4 and 5 am. Last year it was 430am. I love that even as 30 year old adults we still get excited. I hope that never changes about us.
Pictures of that particular Christmas in 2005 are in a photo album and for some reason I don't have any of them on CD. And I'm too lazy to get the album and scan right now. So these pictures from past Christmas's
2007
The year Rachel ruined Clayton's Wii surprise. That is a memory for another year.
2008
The year we almost got snowed in. The four wheeling/tubing was fun though.
2009
The year of the tandem
PS. When we have kids they will NOT be waking up at 4 in the morning to open presents. The last thing I want on Christmas is ornery tired kiddos.
PPS. The sleepless nights have already started for me. Wish me luck that I will get some sleep this week.

RUDE! You both promised you would stop saying I ruined the surprise. There have now been TWO, count it, TWO incidents with you two and surprises. We should probably stop bringing up my mistake!
So is that why you have been doing your blog posts so early in the morning? You can't sleep?
I love it! You guys are so funny, I cannot believe you get up so early to open presents! HAHA! I just love my sleep TOOOO much! I love presents too, but I think I like sleep better :) I love that you both still get so excited! :)
YAY for Christmas!
You two are just like kids! How fun you still get excited! That's great! Get some sleep though before the big night!
