LANIKAI AND KAYAKING

We have been wanting to kayak to the Mokulua islands off of Lanikai for awhile now. Jodie had told us that there had been a shark attack in those waters a few months ago. Worried? Nah.

We drove out to Kailua to find a kayak rental place. Jackpot. We found a guy unloading kayaks just off of the road. He tells us that we have to rent from their office just a few miles away.

Clayton: We heard there was a shark attack recently. What's up with that?
Kayak guy: It was a few months ago. They closed down the beachpark for the day. You guys will be fine (not that we were worried).

We drive over to the rental store, pay for our stuff and sign those liability papers saying that if something happens (such as a shark attack) we won't sue. As soon as we dot the "i's" and cross the "t's" the owner of the store whispers in the clerks ear:

Owner: There was a 10 foot tiger shark spotted eating turtles just off of the Mokulua islands (uhhh that is right where we are going).

They ask us if we still want to go, to which we quickly replied, "yes" and were on our way. Neither of us were nervous and we were both secretly hoping to see the shark. Our kayak was 12 feet, the tiger shark was 10 feet and they don't usually attack anything larger than themselves. Sadly, we didn't see it (I know mom you are relieved).

Clayton doing a handstand into one of the pools (what some call the queen's bath) on the Mokulua island we went out too. There are two islands. One you are allowed to be on the other is completely off limits. They are both protected bird places for a bird I do not recall the name of. They weren't all that exciting (the birds) so I didn't see it necessary to retain that information in my already filled to capacity brain.

da bird!

uhhhh...the person taking the photo made us do that. I know, I know a change from the regular pose...I hope you can handle it (aka rachel and kami)

ahhhh the lovely couple (we are the ones in the attractive orange life vests) and NO SHARK. grrrr

looking at the Mokulua islands off of Lanikai beach. Oh and those are our feet.

In case you forgot what we look like here is a picture of us.

us on the Mokulua island we kayaked too. While we were there hiking around it someone said, "if the rocks look wet then chances are they will get wet again." uhhh you think!?!
