These pools are natural hot springs and are not treated with chlorine. Putting head in water is NOT recommended.
Not quite sure what I am doing in this picture...
The warning above is what we saw when we ventured into the distant land of Idaho on Saturday to go swimming at Riverdale. We saw the sign after we put our heads in the water. So far no hair has fallen out.
This was Clayton's first trip to Riverdale, but it was my millionth time (well...1st time in about 6 years). My sisters, cousins and I all took swimming lessons at Riverdale when we were young. This is where I learned to "tread" water and not to brag or anything but I was an awesome treader (still am). However, my american crawl was a different story. Do they even call it the american crawl anymore? Anyway, I was held back two years, TWO YEARS because I couldn't do the crawl...stupid American crawl! Grrr... I still think that my awesomeness in treading should have made up for my lack of crawl and they should have let me move on to the next level! However, keep in mind we were learning to swim in Idaho and things are just a little bit different there (just kidding all you Idaho readers).
How about a trip down memory lane
1. One the long 35 minute drive to swim lessons there was a sign just inside of the Idaho border that said, "IDAHO IS TOO GREAT TO LITTER." Oh how we hated that sign. For some reason as young kids that sign was demeaning to Utah. It was like saying that Idaho was better than Utah. Whenever we passed the sign we would litter out the car window (when mom wasn't looking of course).
2. There was another sign in the changing rooms that said, "NO PEEING IN THE POOL." We thought that this sign was the funniest thing ever. Keep in mind that as 6, 7 and 8-year olds the word "peeing" is hilarious.
3. Riverdale is also the first place where I discovered the "hottness" lifeguards (the male ones of course).
4. Hello Polar Bear Ice Cream! I'm still in morning that the Polar Bear is gone and has been replaced with some cell phone store. No cell phone can give you the comfort that ice cream can.
5. One time I saw our janitor from elementary school in the pool with some woman and they were canoodling. Scared me for life (well the rest of my elementary life).
6. Have I mentioned my great ability to tread water?

Gosh Heidi, I didn't know you could tread water so well, and...I can't believe you littered when I wasn't looking. The things I learn when reading your blog. Shame, shame! Hope you guys had fun anyway at good ole Riverdale Resort, but nothing beats the beach on a nice hot sunny day, does it???? Maybe some day, sometime we'll see the sun again. hmmmmmmmmmmmm
i only got held back one year for not being able to blow bubbles through my nose. But i am a master at the american crawl. I still LOVE throwing trash at the IDAHO sign. AND i too miss polar bear. The gave the best shakes. They were huge and had tons of chunks...... Was the elementary janitor mr. Bodily that you saw at riverdale... SICK
no it was Gerold
riverdale is bad memories...curtis tripped me and i fell in the water and he held his massive foot on me under water for what seemed like forever. Dang it there is my COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of jon's friends once got some THING on his face from Riverdale. probably like a fungus of some sort.. you should probably keep an eye out for any new growths on your face. i heard they did some upgrades there though. still, its riverdale... & I tagged you!!! :)
I miss the Polar Bear too! They had the best shakes and cheap food!! Preston just isn't the same anymore.
I think that sign GETS people to litter. Every time my friends go to Idaho for their lottery tickets, they litter at that sign.
I remember Riverdale my mom burned the seat of her swimming suit going down the small slide. We went to Riverdale all the time. Not for swimming lessons my mom and dad must of been to cheep we never had swimming lessons. So it makes me wonder how my brother ever became a life gaurd.
Hey, I grew up in Idaho and I can't believe you Utahn's have such little respect for my great state. Just kidding!! I took swimming lessons at Riverdale too. I loved going swimming there. Not anymore. I've heard to many disgusting things about it and I haven't been back for years. I'm glad you and Clayton are still alive. I just hope you don't get some strange growth or fungus thing. Thanks again for FHE on Monday. It was so much fun. I'm glad you let me and Mike into your bubble. :)
I totally remember what we did when we saw the Idaho too great to litter sign. I heard that they recently have cleaned the warmer pool. I remember that we looked forward to the end of our swimming lessons time so that the last day we could say a little longer and go down the slide!!! Good times huh!
I didn't know you could tread water so well....hmmmmm.....must have been a SECRET talent.
Good old Riverdale, such fond memories
